Whose Voice Gets Through?

John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

Who do you go to when you need some input on certain areas of life? I know for me, if need some information on appliances, electronics, or other gadgets, I can contact my friend Todd. He is great at research and has vast experience. His insights have saved me a lot time and headache. Thanks, Todd!! When it comes to cars, especially older cars, I consult with Rich. We are good at bouncing off ideas and exploring creative fixes. Mary is great when it comes to leadership. She is an amazing leader and stretches me to think outside the box. When Kristi and I were younger, just starting out as a married couple, we looked to Jim and Marylou. When we became young parents, we sought the advice of Wayne and Caron. In ministry, I have a number of people that I am open to let speak into my life. One of my mentors pointed me to this bit of wisdom:

Proverbs 11:14 Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors, there is safety.

Today, there seems to be so many voices out there competing for our attention and devotion. The political fray is ramping up. Differing social movements are trying all avenues to get their message out. The main-stream media seems to be in a full court press with more than just information. Social media is packed full of any and every voice saying they have the truth. In all these we are pulled, persuaded, enticed, entreated, and even yelled at so their voice will get through. It gets a bit exhausting, and we just want a reliable voice that we can trust.

Even more than the trust I have in those people who gave me good input, I have found Jesus to be a trusted voice. Jesus’ voice actually has the greatest influence in my life. Jesus said:

John 6:35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.

John 8:12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 10:9 I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.

John 10:11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

John 11:25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live,

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.

Jesus came, as John 10:10 says, so that we may thrive in life, to live the life God created us to live. Jesus provides, guides, is the door to the best life ever, the best coach ever, and in Him we rise up against all that throws us down. Jesus is that loving Shepherd that when we are attached to Him, like a branch is attached to a vine, we thrive. Yes, His truth is a voice that gets through and makes a difference. It reminds me of the song “Voice of Truth” by Casting Crowns. See, it’s easy to let other voices in that make us feel we are less. But Jesus and His words bring hope, peace, and even joy. This reminds me of another song by Tenth Avenue North, “You are More.” The song is as if Jesus were to say that we are more than the troubles we face. Maybe Jesus’ words are just what is needed to get through to you! Like these people who encountered Jesus: John 4:1-30, Mark 10:46-52, Luke 8:40-56.

One of the best places to hear Jesus’ voice, outside of reading Jesus words ourselves as we read the Bible, is to go to church. Going to church is a bit different these days. Many churches are either meeting online or outside, but most churches are still open and gathering. If you don’t already have a church you attend, we would like to invite you to attend Neighborhood Church either in-person on our patio or online. Our webpage has information on how to connect with us or find us on line at neighborhoodchurch.com. As well, if you would like to view any of our past worship gatherings or videos visit our YouTube channel, or just search Neighborhood Church Cypress on the YouTube site.

Letting the voice of truth through along with you,
