Let Love Win!

I was in the grocery store the other day and was witness to a small miracle! Now, it was not one of Biblical proportions like calming the sea, causing the blind to see, the lame to walk, or raising the dead, no this was more subtle, more of an out-of-the-public-eye occurrence, yet still impacting. It happened rather fast but the outcome was that love won. The small love-victory miracle went like this; an elderly woman in the express lane was struggling, loading her few groceries up onto the counter. Some behind her in line were frustrated, one even said under her breath, but could be heard by a few of us, ‘Um, this is the EXPRESS line!’ The elderly woman heard her and smiled and apologized as she gingerly lifted a dozen eggs out of her cart. At that point two teenage boys in line right behind her took note of her struggle and with compassion asked permission to help. She smiled and said, ‘Yes please,’ and kept thanking them and remarking how their mothers must be so proud. I even saw the boys escort her to her car carrying her bag of groceries. Love had just taken on impatience, frustration, even a bit of anger and won! Love does that.

When we express love it defeats much of the negative, hurtful, and stressful attitudes of the day. The Bible puts it this way:
1 Peter 4:8 Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.

Love has a way of draining out the pressure of pride and allowing good healthy conflict resolution and fantastic relationships, for love connects us.
Colossians 3:14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

Jesus was very clear in His challenge and instruction to us to love:
John 13:34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

We are challenged to keep making the choice of love, because love wins, love brings victory, love turns difficultly into moments of great joy. However, love is a choice. Love is not some mysterious feeling that over takes us. Love is a choice to do loving actions.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never ends.

Love is a choice to be patient. Love is a choice to not be jealous. Love is a choice to not always talk about yourself. Love is a choice to be humble. Love is a choice to be polite and kind. Love is a choice not be so uptight and not hold grudges. Love is a choice not to celebrate when others hurt, but to rejoice when real love happens. Love is a choice to be committed, to have faith, and to think the best. Love is a continual choice through all the ups and downs of life. Wow, that’s amazing, victorious love.

The truth is we all have been loved like this!
Psalm 86:15 But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.
Zephaniah 3:17 The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
Ephesians 2:4-5 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ – by grace you have been saved –
1 John 4:10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Because of this love we should love like Jesus.
1 John 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

Why not let love win and choose to act in a loving way. See, when those boys let love win, both of them and that older woman were encouraged. Those of us in line were encouraged too, even inspired to be kind to each other and that woman who muttered some unkind words even asked us to forgive her! Love does win. What ways could you let love win today?

Lots of love is encouraged and experienced at church. If you are not already attending a church we would like to invite you to attend one of our church campuses this Sunday. Our website has all the information you would need www.cypresschurch.net . We would love for you to join us.

Seeking the win of loving action with you,

Mike
