Sunday is going to be an awesome day! I’m not just talking about all the celebrations all over the world that will be giving praise and glory for our risen Savior. I’m not just referring to centuries of worship and adoration given to Jesus who endured the pain and suffering on that Friday. Only to be resurrected on Sunday as He walked out of that tomb very much alive!! What I am wanting to discuss is the tremendous confidence and courage Sunday brings.
For the truth is, there will always be Fridays where we suffer and struggle and feel like the world is against us; difficulties in relationships, grappling at work, wrestling with weight, fights with health and even cancer, battles with-in, and the scuffles with self-focused, mean, insensitive people, just like that Friday where our Lord Jesus faced the horrific torture of evil unleashed, we too will face our own version of Friday. Yet we have the hope of Sunday, for Sunday comes every week!
By now some of you are remembering that great Easter meditation done by Pastor S.M. Lockridge “It’s Friday, But Sundays a Comin’” (to listen to this inspiring message click here). See there is hope in Sunday! For because Jesus conquered death and rose from the grave, His strength and power are verified and our faith in God is validated.
Because of Sunday, because Jesus is risen we know the truth of the Bible that we were made to thrive (Casting Crowns did a song about this click here to listen). Jesus Himself said…
John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
That thriving life is experienced as we endure the Fridays and live life Jesus’ way in light of Sunday.
1 Timothy 6:17-19 17 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
Living in light of Sunday is to be about Jesus’ purposes regardless of the Fridays we face, for there is where we find what is ‘truly life’ or ‘real life,’ the thriving life Jesus came to secure for us. Yes, Friday struggles and sufferings happen, but there is the hope of Sunday…new life, vibrant life, thriving life, a life set free.
John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
Not only free but remade, renewed, revived!
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.1 The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Because of Sunday we can have the confidence that these Bible verses and the Bible’s teaching are true! We can rest on the promises of Scripture…the hope of Sunday is very real!
1 Peter 1:3-4 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you
Yes, Fridays will happen…
John 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
But the hope of Sunday is a very present reality, Jesus has overcome the world! The religious leaders could not silence Him, the devil could not turn Him, evil could not thwart Him, death could not stop Him, and the grave could not hold Him…that’s what Easter Sunday shouts and every other Sunday proclaims that JESUS IS ALIVE!
Put your hope in Jesus, the Lord of Sunday, the Lord of everyday…and you will thrive!
Seeking to place my hope in the Risen Jesus with you,
