A ‘life hack’ is an uncommon solutions to common problems like the one I saw the other day where stretch a large rubber band over the opening of a paint can (where it straddles the opening) and us it to wipe your pain brush rather than the side of the can! I can’t believe I never thought of that, but that’s a ‘life hack.’ Life hacks are also unusual ways of using everyday objects to make life easier, like using bread bag tag (you know those plastic little tags that keep the plastic bread bag closed) to label computer or other electronic cords so you know what cords goes to what device. That’s brilliant! As well, ‘life hacks’ are simple and practical tips that may not be so obvious like using a toilet paper roll (cut open) as a cuff to hold wrapping paper from unraveling. What a great idea! Life Hacks are creative, useful solutions to life’s little issues and problems. Click here to go a life-hack web page.
What is also interesting with these tidbits of inventive answers is with social media (Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram) people love to share these morsels of ingenious problem solving ideas. As well there are hundreds of websites dedicated to these life hacks. Now this concept of sharing inventive and innovative life secrets has been going since the creation on humanity. Someone will find a new way of doing something, or a new way to solve a problem and pass it on. Actually, King Solomon of the Bible has a bunch of life hacks in the Bible book of Proverbs. Here are a few…
Proverbs 11:14 Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety
Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
Proverbs 17:22 A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
Proverbs 22:29 Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.
Proverbs 26:4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you be like him yourself.
Oh, and there is a whole lot more. Some people are so into these life hacks they read a chapter of the Bible book of Proverbs a day just to be reminded of them (by the way there are 31 chapters in the Bible book of Proverbs, one for every day of the month…Hah! I just gave you a life hack!!).
Now, you have probably learned many a life hack from parents, friends, mentors, teachers, coaches and now Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, etc… They are fun to learn and fun to share like the life hack of using a hand can opener to open those annoying blister packs, or a bread clip can save a flip-flop sandals with split holes, or toothpaste can clear hazy car light lens (I have not tried this so use with caution), and another one I have not tried is to use a bag of Doritos for kindling (they say it really works!?!). What life hacks have you learned and enjoy passing on?
One life hack that I believe is the greatest of all life hacks is found in something Jesus said…
Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
The ‘kingdom of God’ is Jesus on the throne of our lives, the central most important focus and affection of life. When we make the choice to set our love on Jesus, to have His way of life be our way of life, to join in on His story, life aligns. In the context (the verses around our verse) of Matthew 6:33, the Disciples were worried about life and even the practical issues of life and Jesus given them and us a life hack…to seek Jesus first; to know who He is, to surrender to His will, and to grow in faith. I know this life hack has worked for me. What about you?
Another great life hack is prayer.
Philippians 4:6-7 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Prayer brings peace! Now I could say a whole lot more about this, but short and simple, prayer creates peace. Are you anxious, worried, stressed, upset, frustrated? Pray. Pray and see what happens.
Ok, one more life hack…
Psalm 1:1-3 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
The ‘law of the Lord’ can now mean the whole Bible. The Bible is an amazing life hack. Try reading and dwelling on its truths and see what happened. You will be amazed.
