Kristi and I were out for an evening walk as we were away from home for a few days. We were up in Carmel staying at a good friend’s home and as we looked up the sky burst open to the brilliance of tiny lights; some twinkling, some in design, some brighter than the rest. It was an awesome light display that outshines even the most elaborate Christmas light show here on earth. I was in awe and this Bible verse came to mind:
Jeremiah 32:17 Ah, Sovereign LORD, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for You.
If God created the heavens (which He did), nothing is too difficult for Him.
Psalm 147:4-5 He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; His understanding has no limit.
Isaiah 40:26 Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of His great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.
God created each and every one of those stars, placed them where they are and has given each a name. God is amazing and not only is nothing too difficult for Him, but He knows all there is to know and is not limited like we are. If He is that smart (and He is), nothing is too difficult for Him.
There is an incidence in Genesis where Abraham is supposed to be the Father of a Nation, but has no kids and his wife is 90ish and well past the child-bearing years, yet in Genesis God tells Abraham he is going to have a son, and Sarah laughs. Listen to God’s response…
Genesis 18:13-14 Then the LORD said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Will I really have a child, now that I am old?’ Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return to you at the appointed time next year and Sarah will have a son.”
There it is again…that understanding that God can do anything, even the miraculous like have a 90year old woman give birth. If God can do that (and He can), nothing is too difficult for Him. This means there is no problem, no issue, no relationship mess, no financial setback, no family debacle, no job hassle, no family fuss, no health glitch, no friendship snag, no ministry hardship, no resource drought…and the list goes on that God cannot handle. Now yes, His way to handle this may not be the fix you hoped for, but many times He deals with it in His way to accomplish even more through our difficulty; like strengthening you as you face the trial (see James 1:1-5) with Him.
So don’t think for a second that God can’t…yes He can. If He can create what we see in the night sky and have someone have a baby at 90, nothing is too difficult for Him and He specializes in the miraculous. Sure it takes trust and even more so when what we think should happen as a miraculous fix does not. Yet our trust in Him does not change the reality that nothing is too difficult for God, but it sure does change our outlook and faith.
Too often we put God in a box and limit Him to just what we can understand, but He is much more, way much more and we have the joy to get to know Him as the nothing-is-to-difficult-God. The question is, will you?
I looked up in the sky again tonight, wow God is amazing, so huge, so powerful, so mighty, so incredible, and all of the sudden the issues on my mind seemed so much smaller and doable. Maybe that could be your experience as well.
