Did you know you have an amazing super power? Yes, I’m serious! You have a great power that can have an incredible impact. Now, I’m not talking about some super-human ability like being able to leap buildings in a single bound, or spin a web like a spider, or move as fast as a speeding bullet, but an ability that can be life changing. I have seen this ability used by the young and old, men and woman, and people from any people group you can think of.
It is the power revealed in …
Proverbs 3:27 Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act.
This amazing super power is the power to do good; the power to act in a beneficial way towards others. It’s that random act of kindness by purchasing a drink for the person in line with you at Starbucks, that time spent helping your neighbor, that generous gift to a missionary, that note of encouragement to a coworker, that smile and thank you to that store clerk, that purchase of the extra box of Girl Scout cookies (then giving the box to a friend), that lunch invitation to the new person, that moment of time you gave to hear a lonely person’s story, that sacrificial gift to a friend in need, that email to a friend in crisis, that public compliment on Facebook, that unexpected favor for your spouse, parent, boss, or kids, that text of appreciation, that small gift to just say you were thinking of them…and you get the point. Small or big, these powerful acts of goodness make a difference.
These acts of goodness release love in a way that encourages, builds up, empowers, inspires, motivates and so much more.
1 Peter 4:8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
So why would we withhold good when it’s something we all can do? I wonder how different our world would be if we started exercising our super-power to do good on a more regular bases? I think we could change our home, our neighborhood, our city, our state, our nation, our world.
To those of you who are initiating good, God bless you and keep at it. You are a true super hero. To those of us who are still disguised in our secret identity, it’s time. This world, your world, needs you!
John 13:34-35 “A new command I (Jesus) give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
