Priceless

A friend of mine posted something like this on Facebook:

  • 2 tickets to Lambeau Field: $300
  • 2 Hotdogs, fries and a drink : $40
  • 1 Cheese wedge hat: $35

My son’s first Packer Game…Priceless!

We all have those moments where we want time to slow down or stop so we can savor the value of that particular instant in time. It is of such great value to us we classify it as priceless. I know I have many; the time my son and I attended our first pro-football game or went snowboarding; or when my daughters looked up at me and said “I love you daddy;” or times just watching TV as we snuggled; a walk on the beach with my wife; or our times traveling; a time with a good friend; a sermon well preached; an encounter with God that was so intense and felt as if Jesus was right there with me. Oh, and I could go on about moments, some that did cost money yet were priceless. Priceless in that the experience was of such importance that it would cheapen it to try to put a price on it. What ‘priceless’ experiences come to your mind? 

These ‘priceless’ occurrences let us savor the moment and lift our soul, bringing encouragement to life, and helping us experience the joy of life. Some of these moments just happen. Some of these moments we purpose to experience. Some of these moments are available if we would just take the time to step into them. One such happening King David of the Bible wrote about in Psalm 36. A moment open to us for it speaks of the priceless reality of God’s amazing love:               

Psalm 36:5   5 Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. 

David is dwelling on how much God loves us…and He does, He really does.  

Jeremiah 31:3  3 The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.

1 John 4:9-10  9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.  10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

And I could go on and on listing verse after verse that reveals God’s love. This is a love so amazing, and so real, and so wonderful…so priceless. A love that can really make a difference in our lives:

Ephesians 3:16-19  16 I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being,  17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,  18 may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long  and high and deep is the love of Christ,  19and to know this love that surpasses knowledge– that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Priceless! That’s why David wrote on in Psalm 36:

Psalm 36:7   7 How priceless is Your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings.

Why not take a moment and think about God’s amazing love? Think about how Psalm 139 says, God knit us together inside our mom and we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Think about how God never stops thinking about you and when He thinks of you He smiles. Think of the many ways He has protected you, guided you, helped you…and most of all provided for you a way to save you from the plight of our sin. Wow, the truth of Romans 8:36-39 puts an exclamation point on this and drives home the truth…

Romans 8:38-39   38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,  39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

As we approach a time where we express our thanks, let’s bask in the ‘priceless’ love of our Lord.
