Getting Ready

Aaah! We missed it!  We had just taken two steps towards Costco’s front door as they were rolling it down for the night.  Oh well, at least we accomplished something else to check off our list, and besides, we only had to go to two Home Depots to get all we needed.  Yesterday we did purchase what was needed from Costco.  We are checking things off our lists every day, and me being a list maker, each check off of a completed task is like a bite of your favorite dessert, winning, scoring a goal, finding money, savoring a piece of chocolate, finishing that paper …I think you get the feeling.  Sure the list is extensive, but I consider that part of the adventure.

What is this adventure that requires a somewhat arduous task list? Well, as many of you know we have our three kids all getting married in the next FIVE MONTHS!!  So yes, the list is massive and each detail is significant because these are very important dates packed full of great meaning and life change.  And we are not just talking about the ceremony and reception and the HUGE list of tasks that involves, but the marriage as well.  As they prepare to move from being single to married and building a Christian home.  They have decisions to make, life blending to do, living on their own to prepare for, and going through some pre-marriage counseling, and all those assignments and exercises to practice so they will thrive as God intended.  There is a lot to get ready!

So why am I bringing all this up?  Well this coming week is a very important time of great meaning and life-change.  This is the week we celebrate who Jesus is and what He has done for us.  Over the centuries the established church has set up special services and with significant tradition to help us get ready and make this time of year meaningful and even life changing.

We at Cypress Church are not different, we have planned a number of events to make this Holy Week a time to connect and reconnect with God and grow ever deeper in relationship with Him. Here is what we have planned on our Cypress Church campus:

Palm Sunday, April 17, 8:45am & 10:30am

We will be celebrating with joyful “Hosannas” and palm branches waving, as we recognize Jesus, seeking to live a life that acknowledges Him.

Maundy Thursday, April 21, 7:00pm

We will be remembering Jesus’ last meal with His disciples and His example of servant leadership by washing their feet as we share some finger foods, communion and, if you so choose, foot-washing.

Good Friday, April 22, 7:00pm

This will be a candlelit evening as we reflect upon – and are thankful for – the sacrifice Christ made for us on the cross, yet knowing His death does give us hope.

aWAKEning (Saturday), April 23, open house 5:00pm-8:00pm

This was a tough day for the Disciples as Jesus lay in the tomb. He had been crucified.  We will have stations throughout the Worship Center; visit them either by yourself or in a group to help you reflect upon Christ’s life, death and resurrection – done all for you.  This is an open house, with no set program, so come when you like and stay as long as you want between 5:00-8:00pm.

Easter Sunday, April 24, 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am

Jesus has RISEN, yes He has RISEN INDEED!!  Throw open the doors!  It’s time to celebrate!  For Jesus is Alive! His resurrection changes everything, Jesus changes everything giving us hope even in the midst of chaos.  Come celebrate with us and invite a friend.  This may be just what they needand you too.

My hope and prayer is that this Easter will not just be another holiday you walk through, but a meaningful and even life-changing time you experience. So get ready.  Pray.  Spend time thinking about all Jesus means to you.  If you are not sure of your relationship with Jesus, investigate Him…read the first few books of the New Testament of the Bible, and attend church.  God has something for you this Easter, why not seek it out.

Anticipating Easter Week with you,

Mike
