Aebowan, which is hello in the language of Sri Lanka. Pastor Takeshi and I have been in India and are now in Sri Lanka doing some speaking, teaching and building relationships for future ministry. Today, which is about 12 ½ hours ahead of you, I was walking along the road and two farmers who were trying to lead a water buffalo didn’t want to be lead. It was a bit comical as the little man was trying to pull a one ton beast to the other side of the road. The farmer was trying as hard as he could, but he could not move this mammoth animal. He wanted to move him to a greener pasture, but the water buffalo was only concerned with the meager weeds surrounding the coconut trees. The famers were frustrated with this stubborn behemoth of an animal because it was not going along with what they were doing. It brings up the questions, how do you move a one ton water buffalo? Finally, one of the farmers gave some kind of special call with a few vocal clicks and the water buffalo whipped his head around and about threw the other farmer to the ground. They trotted along after him as they went off to that green pasture. It was obvious that animal was used to the call and some relationship was established that the beast was willing to be led that way.
As I thought about this, the Lord pointed out to me that we’re a lot like that stubborn, single-minded water buffalo only caring about our needs and refusing to be led, even though God has a great journey in front of us. And as I thought about that, I thought about the great journey God handed us with discovering our Unique Call. God has a plan for us. Psalm 139 says that “we are fearfully and wonderfully made and God has our days numbered out”, as well as Jeremiah 29:11 says, “God has great plans for us.” He has a unique call in our lives and He wants us to experience that. He wants to move along as we go through the journey of life, to listen to Him and be led where He wants to go which will be not always the easy life, but it will be a life that is in line with what God desires. It’s so easy for us to be like that stubborn water buffalo that’s not willing to be lead.
As we move into this Unique Call, this time we have set aside this next seven Sunday’s to discover God’s journey, I want to encourage everyone to not be like that stubborn water buffalo, but be willing to be lead to listen to that voice that we learned when we came to Christ. And as we go along on these seven Sunday’s, I want to encourage everyone to get involved in each aspect of the campaign; to be there every Sunday, to get in a small group and participate in the discuss, and also do the daily journals so they can really sense what God wants to take us on this journey. God’s unique call on our life is not an event or an action; it is mostly a journey of following God and listening to his voice, much like that water buffalo.
So don’t be a stubborn water buffalo, but join the journey and be willing to be led to discover what God’s unique call for your life is. I am looking forward to seeing you all next Sunday. God bless you and I’ll see you soon.
Peace and Grace,
